Capital City Food Pantry
Capital City's Food Pantry is located at the Tavares Community Center at 263 Chad Brown Street in Providence. The center is open Monday and Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The pantry provides fresh produce (Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.), canned and frozen food products, meats, fish and poultry to the low-to-moderate income people of Smith Hill and surrounding neighborhoods.
Annually, we distribute 180,000 pounds of food, and the amount continues to increase, as need is constantly growing.
Our goal is to ensure that no child, adult or family goes hungry on our watch. We are pleased to be a distribution point for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The operation of the Food Pantry is made possible through the generous donations of United Natural Foods, Inc., The Rhode Island Foundation, Hasbro, Inc. and many generous individual contributors.
If you are in need of food assistance, please contact our Food Pantry Manager, Stephanie Gomez @ 401-413-1077. Stephanie will make arrangements to meet with you, to discuss your needs, and provide you with information about guidelines and eligibility for food assistance.
Ms. Gomez also assists individuals and families get connected to other resources in the community. She is knowledgeable about the various social service programs and their eligibility requirements. Capital City is also a member of the Furniture Bank and can make referrals there.
